15.   Reaction:                          AgNO3 + HCN → AgCN + HNO3

           

            HCN is a weak acid and therefore it cannot be ionized.

 

        Ionic Reaction:                  Ag+ + NO3- + HCN → AgCN + H+ + NO3-

 

        Net Ionic Reaction:           Ag+ + HCN → AgCN + H+

 

        Spectator ions:                  NO3-

 

 

16.   Reaction:                          NaCN + HOH ↔ NaOH + HCN

 

            HCN is a weak acid and cannot be ionized.

            NaOH is a strong base and can be ionized.

 

        Ionic Reaction:                  Na+ + CN- + HOH ↔ Na+ + OH- + HCN

 

        Net-ionic Reaction:           CN- + HOH → OH- + HCN

 

        Spectator Ions:                 Na+
